Summer dresses

I'm not your cut-off shorts kinda girl. In fact, I tend not to wear shorts at all, except for a pair of an ex-boyfriend's shorts that I appropriated a long time ago. Summer finds me in dresses. Lots of dresses. Each year, I make a few and purchase a few. They are a mix of the modern and the vintage but ultimately, they remind me of my childhood.

I've asked myself why, this obsession with dresses? The more I think about it, the more it has to do with watching my aunts and grandma get ready for Church or for parties. Well...there's also the fact that dresses hide a multitude of sins, but I digress.

In my salad days in Haiti, people really dressed for church. Days before, the women would busy themselves with chores but come Sunday, they transformed themselves. Their hands were manicured, their shoes shined, their hair done up, and red lipstick was put on just so. Inevitably, they always wore such pretty dresses to church.

Since I'm feeling very sentimental, here are my inspirations for dress shopping/making for this summer.

This image is from HAMB. Not a dress, I know....but maybe I should give the whole cut-offs thing a try. On beach days I simply wear a cover-up, but I reckon shorts would also work well. Any tricks to making the perfect pair?

Cento per cento at Leokadia

A friend and jewelery designer, Vincent Hawley is having a show at Leokadia tomorrow. 100 pieces of jewelery, for $100. Say what!

I know, I know, I'm on a shopping shopping moratorium, but a girl can look, can't she? Besides, Leokadia has such yummy shoes.

I'm leaving my debit card at home, but I'll be the one with the camera and the cocktail in hand.

Here's the 411:

Stella the curious dog....Center Street, Jamaica Plain

That Stella is a curious dog. The pretty dress she is sniffing comes from JP Dame. To be fair though, Stella was absolutely lovely, and happened to misbehave just this once.

Sock of the day

I've been following the Five Four's Blog for a while now. I've been amused and inspired by their designer's, Andres Izquieta, Shoes and Socks of the day.

Here are a few pictures.

Dishevelled Harvies...Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge

I took this picture after heading back from Berry Lime. Looking at this picture anew, I like how the young man in the back, on the left, rolled up his trousers. I'm not a rolled up trousers kinda gal, but on occasion, I do like the look on men.

Puma City at Fan Pier

I finally made it to Puma City at Fan Pier and instantly fell in love with these babies. I'm unable to wear heels, or shoes for that matter, because of a running injury, so I'm really, really tempted to purchase these despite my moratorium on shopping. The Puma store itself has been constructed from 40 shipping containers. Very cool stuff.

and then there was the Lego Volvo!

If you get a chance, definitely make it over to Fan Pier. Puma City and the Volvo Race will be in town until May 16th.

A couple who match....Park Street, Boston

Here's the question: Do you think this couple meant to match their outfit?

Party at Puma City...Boston

It was such a lovely surprise to run into Margot of A Temporelle on Saturday. I was on my way to Puma City (more on that later). She was looking lovely; I had my camera. The obvious happened, of course. We talked, I shot, we made plans to hang out. She's super cool.

Margot's boy.
