A night at Achilles

Went to the Achilles Project last night. What a refreshing (yet dangerous) idea to sip a glass of bubbly while perusing racks of well edited garments. I'd have no problem having their buyer be my personal shopper.

This young women and her friend Tim were so well put together that I'm hounding them to meet up with me in the daytime.

A dreamecho a day...(part two)

So Miz Dreamecho and I have become good friends. I've been extremely busy these past few months, so I haven't seen much of her, except for online. I miss her. Hopefully, we'll be able to connect this week.

The tights are from We Love Color. The Jacket from H&M.

Why the absence?

It's mid-term week. Loads of papers and deadlines. Will be back in the fold next week. In the meantime, I'd like to leave you with my inspiration for dressing this morning. Black jeans, charcoal colored suede booties, a black and white boucle/tweed blazer, gray striped long sleeve t-shirt. Hair pulled back. Red lipstick.

I swear, living on so little sleep for the past two weeks, has made me all the more determined to look great, especially when I'm tired and cranky. Bright red lipstick has been my armor. It makes me look composed and less likely to want to stain the library table by taking a "short" nap. Until next week, dress well, be well.

For a little fun, you could pair the dress with these babies. I know, they are unreasonable for Boston's cobblestoned streets but why not live dangerously. Shoe pics from Obsessed with Shoes.

My appreciation for tweed blooms every fall. Loving the glasses, the tweed jacket and the casually rolled up trousers.

October in Paris

I've been a bit obsessed about finding about two one-piece dresses to add to my wardrobe this winter. It all started with Michael Kors' and Dior's fall 2008 line. I haven't had much luck with finding the pieces that are within my budget....may just have to make them.

Speaking of one-piece dresses, Bill Cunningham was in Paris. Here's his view on the one-piece dress from Paris Fashion Week.

Seeing plaid

I was in the South End yesterday and noticed a whole of plaid. What's your take on this trend? I have to admit that I haven't resisted the trend myself (click on the picture for a larger view).

Back to CPH

Can you tell that I'm getting a little nostalgic for CPH. I was going through pictures when I came across these two. I saw the gentlemen in the white pants walking down the street. I made a mad dash to position myself to take a picture of him. (Definitely click on the picture for a closeup of his shoes. Those Danish men wear great shoes). His friend, in the plaid shirt, saw me and said, "What about me?" What else could I do but snap, snap away at him.

I haven't done a style report for CPH, but here's a quick primer. Plaid is in. Plaid shirts and especially plaid scarves. The latter is a huge trend. Everybody and their mama wears scarves in Denmark. The young do the trendy plaid, the older folk (such as with the gentlemen in the white trousers) do it in a more conservative manner....wow, come to think of it, I got a scarf in the exact same fabric and color as the gentlemen in the plaid shirt. Hmmm. Back to style report. Drop crotch pants are in, so are oversize jackets....nothing too different really from what's going on in NYC or in London/Paris.

I'm renting a camera from Calumet in Cambridge. Hopefully, I'll have some great Boston pictures to share with you next week. In the meantime, dress well and prosper.

White tights

Not too long ago, I received a text from my sister:

"u should blog about tights. like shoes, they can make or break an outfit. Be sure to expound on the perils of white tights on a woman older than 5"

I laughed out loud reading that one. She can be so funny that sis of mine. A week after receiving her text, I saw these pictures on Altamira. I suppose I could sport tights myself, but it would all depend on the length of the skirt. Donning a short skirt with white tights would make me look like I have ginormous ham hocks for thighs. What are your views?

Boston Street Style: Jules Aarons

Back in August on a Sunday morning, I had an early morning appointment on Harrison Ave. Normally, I would take the train to Back Bay and walk down to Harrison, but for no reason at all, I decide to change my routine by getting off at Broadway.

The day is in its infancy. I'm feeling cranky and knackered. I know that I need caffeine and sustenance. Thankfully, Sophia's Cafe on West Broadway is open. As I wait for my breakfast burrito, I notice about half a dozen black and white photos on the walls. Curious, I approach. Definitely, street photography style. Jules Aarons. Never heard of him.

A few taps on my Crackberry reveals that he was a physicist/engineer who developed a strong interest in photography. After seeing just a few of Mr. Aaron's pictures, I'm really intrigued. I'm not sure if he's still alive. But if he is, I'll try to meet him. I imagine it would be like meeting Willy Ronis (would love to have met him) or Boogie.

I believe that all three of the pictures above are taken in the North End. The Boston Public Library has a catalogue of his work for sale.

Hands down one of my favorite surprises in life is to discover a new photographer who refreshes my view of the world.

Fashion Flash: Dig it

Christine Liu, Lifestyles Editor at the Weekly Dig, was kind enough to let me attend the "New Adventures in Flashion" photo shoot for fall 2008. Although the shoot took place many moons ago, you can still visit the Dig's spread online. Does the model look familiar? It's Miz Dreamecho herself!

Soona at JP Open Studios

It's official. My lens is broken. Thus the soft pictures. I'll have to send it in to be fixed (or replaced). People at Nikon, if you're reading this, feel free to send over a D700 over. Hmm...it may just be hard to go style hunting with no camera.  There has to be a company out there who loans out cameras! Any ideas?

Moving along, meet Soona. She's a jewelery designer. The first picture is taken at JP Open Studios; the second at South End Open Studios. She collaborates with Hyunh-Kyung Lee in Korea on her pieces. Here's a pic.
