Ramblings

Oh, Boston, Boston, Boston. This new venture of mine, documenting fashion and style in Boston, is proving to be a lot more difficult than I anticipated. Simply because, Boston, on the whole you're not edgy or high fashion but trendy. I don't blame you though, it gets darn right cold in town. Personally, I have to hear the weather report before deciding how many layers I have to wear. High heeled shoes and boots are always reserved for sunny days or when black ice is no longer an issue.

Here's the thing. I can't be the Sartorialist. There's only one Scott Schuman. So, I've taken more of an anthropological approach to this experiment. I'm now more interested in taking pictures of people who exhibit personal style. In the words of Chanel, fashion comes and goes, but style remains innate. I don't think style has to be dictated by celebrities, Milan, Paris or Japan. It has to do with expressing that little sumthin', sumthin', that confidence or creativity that you're trying to get through.

This coming Sunday is Easter Sunday, so, I'm going to choose a traditionally ethnic neighborhood to showcase on the BBC. I hope to be as pleasantly surprised as you will be.

Cheers.

I just came across this blog today, and I wanted to drop in and say that I think it's really awesome. I've often wondered if it would ever be possible to get a handle on Boston's style, or if there was anything distinct about it at all, so I'm excited to see what kinds of things pop up here.

i appreciate what you are doing. i recently moved here from nyc and i'm in total grieving over the lack of a street style here. i'm utterly disappointed in the women here more than the men. the cold is no excuse. its cold in new york too, and they just use it as an opportunity to accessorize. keep up the good work. i hope that it inspires people to have a bit of fun with their image. i'd love to run into you down in the south end one of these days!
